‘Schitt’s Creek’ Just Passed ‘Tiger King’ And ‘Outer Banks’ With This Incredible Netflix Milestone

There’s no doubt that Outer Banks and Tiger King have been two of Netflix’s
NFLX
biggest shows in 2020. In late September when I ranked every Netflix program’s popularity this year according to the streaming platform’s Top 10 charts, Outer Banks held the #3 position while Tiger King continued its months-long reign at #1.

But this past week, a new show passed both of those mega-hits with an incredible milestone. Today, Schitt’s Creek saw its 52nd non-consecutive day on the Top 10 charts. That’s two more days than Tiger King spent on Netflix’s ranking system and one more day than Outer Banks.

More important though: the first 51 days Schitt’s Creek spent on the Top 10 charts were consecutive. That kind of streak is exclusively reserved for Netflix’s absolute top-tier shows.

By achieving that streak, Schitt’s Creek became just the sixth show this year to eclipse the half-century mark since the Top 10 feature was introduced:

1. CoComelon – 78 consecutive days (and counting)
2. Avatar: The Last Airbender – consecutive 61 days
3. Ozark – 57 consecutive days
4. Schitt’s Creek – 51 consecutive days
5. Outer Banks – 51 consecutive days
6. Tiger King – 50 consecutive days

While several other shows like The Haunting of Bly Manor, Emily in Paris and Ratched have seemingly been the stars of the fall season on Netflix, Schitt’s Creek has been the only show of that bunch to surpass the 50-day mark. As you can see from the above list, only CoComelon—which just surpassed Tiger King and officially became Netflix’s most popular show of 2020—has seen a better streak recently.

The cult comedy’s incredible Netflix run began back on September 21, when Schitt’s Creek made its Top 10 premiere in the #8 position. Then after the show cleaned up at the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, Schitt’s Creek catapulted up to the #2 position behind Emily in Paris. The cult comedy would then remain in that #2-to-#3 range for several days.

And while Schitt’s Creek would never overtake shows like Emily in Paris and The Haunting of Bly Manor and capture that #1 position on the daily charts, the Emmy-winner go on to outlast both of those shows and spend more time on the Top 10 charts.

With that incredible streak, Schitt’s Creek undeniably became one of the most popular programs of the year on Netflix. According to my Top 10 ranking system, Schitt’s Creek’s point total in 2020 now stands at 249 points, which just surpassed Space Force for 13th place:

5. Outer Banks – 356 points

Of those 15 shows listed above, Schitt’s Creek is just one of four non-Netflix Originals to capture the streaming platform by storm.
