Shayna Baszler didn’t take very long to capitalize on Becky Lynch’s forthcoming maternity leave as the former NXT Women’s champion cut a wild, messy promo lashing out against Becky Lynch’s pregnancy. Using terms like “miserable parasite” kept Baszler’s promo from straying away from over-the-top heel territory and into a more real, uncomfortable place.

Using every anti-pregnancy—and even anti-women—trope that an unscrupulous person would lean into, Baslzer excellently delivered a heel promo about highly sensitive subject matter.

“Reaction? How stupid do you have to be to get knocked up when you’re the champion? Here’s a fact: 10 out of 10 mothers will try to convince you that pregnancy didn’t ruin their careers.

WWE may be ripe for criticism for booking one of its talents to voice a perspective that was pieced together by predominately male writing staff, but her performance was strong enough to keep the focus on the progression of her character without WWE having to back off her vile sentiments.

Fans immediately took to Twitter to weigh in on Baszler’s ballsy promo, for better or worse, with “Shayna” becoming the top trending topic in wrestling circles.
