Slipknot’s Corey Taylor Among Several Rockers To Donate To COVID Relief Efforts

During these unprecedented times a number of celebrities, artists, and influencers are contributing to COVID-19 relief, whether through some facet or another. Specific to the rock and metal communities, there’s been a recent outpour of bands and musicians who’ve held charity concerts, auctions, or donated profits to COVID relief efforts.

Just last week Jane’s Addiction guitarist, Dave Navarro, announced he was partnering with Punk Rock & Paintbrushes to sell a limited run of his COVID-era street art, with all the proceeds going to The Sidewalk Project; a non-profit homeless art-based organization in Los Angeles. The L.A. homeless population has seen a significant spike in COVID cases over the last month.

Other California rockers, moreover heavy metal kings, Metallica, have donated $350,000 to COVID-19 relief and pledged $100,000 to both Direct Relief and Feeding America. The donations come from the bands very own non-profit the All Within My Hands Foundation.

Even Post Malone, one of pop-culture’s most praised modern artists, managed to raise $4.3 million through his Nirvana tribute live stream last Friday. All proceeds from the rock-fueled set went toward the United Nations Foundation’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for The World Health Organization.

Among the most recent rock figures to donate is Corey Taylor, singer and songwriter for both Slipknot and Stone Sour. This week he announced he’s auctioning off a number of guitars from his personal collection on eBay, all of which are currently up for bidding from now until May 7th. Taylor aims to give all proceeds to Direct Relief, an organization that eBay is also supporting by matching every dollar donated to the non-profit (up to $1 million).

The announcement came from Taylor’s Instagram where he added “Direct Relief is a non-profit doing important work by delivering personal protective equipment and other essential items to healthcare workers fighting COVID-19.”

Slipknot are suppose to take off on their ambitious North American tour at the end of May, but seeing the number spring tour and festival cancellations it’s questionable if the tour will follow through. The band has made no announcements regarding the tour and whether it’s to be scheduled as planned or postponed/canceled.

Corey Taylor, Metallica, Dave Navarro, are only some of the rock and metal names that have helped support COVID relief. There are a plethora of figures and bands in the scene that have put together shows, live streams, or similar COVID related benefits to help health care workers and those in need.

And of course, none of these charitable acts have been limited to the genres of rock and metal, they’re being seen across the entire music industry and entertainment industry. One of the most prominent relief funds comes from Live Nation, and their Global Relief Fund For Live Music Crews. The fund aims to aid the thousands touring and venue crews who are currently out of work due to the pandemic.
