Sony’s New Ad Makes A Strong Case For The PlayStation 5 Over The Xbox Series X

Though it’s brief, the latest PlayStation 5 ad makes a strong case for Sony’s upcoming next-gen console. It makes me want one and it certainly makes the Xbox Series X look like a second choice thanks to Sony’s strong software lineup.

We see a handful of the games coming to the new gaming system at launch and beyond, and they all look great.

The games showcased in the ‘Breathtaking Immersion’ trailer are:

  • Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
  • Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West
  • Ratchet & Clank: A Rift Apart
  • Demon’s Souls
  • Gran Turismo 7

Naturally, of these games I’m most excited for the remake of Demon’s Souls which, even in the snippet here, looks gorgeous.

The trailer also emphasises the various ways the PS5 has improved beyond graphics, including the DualSense controller’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers and the powerful new 3D audio.

It’s not a long trailer but it does the trick, positioning the PlayStation 5 as the must-have next-gen console. Even just five exclusives make a stronger selling point than the lackluster showing from Microsoft lately, especially thanks to the Halo: Infinite’s dismal first-look and subsequent year-long delay.

Not all of these games will released directly at launch, of course, but even a couple plus whatever third-party releases are coming out (Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Black Ops Cold War, etc) should do the trick. The real problem is whether Sony can produce enough PS5 units to meet demand—something I fear will unfortunately not be the case.

We shall see. We still don’t have either a price or a release date for the PS5, but I’m betting $499.99 on November 17th, and $399.99 for the digital-only model. What do you think?
