Council Post: What To Look For In A Gamified Recruitment Platform

CEO and Co-Founder of The Talent Games.

The coronavirus has wreaked havoc on an inordinate number of industries, radically changing the way work is done within a span of a few months. As a result, businesses have been galvanized into making their operations virtual overnight due to lockdowns and social distancing guidelines.

Companies are heavily relying on their human resources teams to help plan for business continuity, communicate policies and reduce the anxiety of their people during a turbulent time when no clear end is to be seen. But hiring amid this crisis, like other business functions, is no easy matter.

While some talent acquisition managers throttle down or freeze their hiring, others make every effort to meet increased demand and keep their talent pools warm. Fraught with the problems of remote working and economic slowdown, many recruiters are attempting to replicate the traditional hiring processes and procedures in a virtual and physically distanced setting.

Additionally, as many companies lay off and downsize their workforce, an unprecedented number of people — from fresh graduates to seasoned veterans — are looking for employment. Over 38.6 million unemployment applications have been filed in the U.S. since March, breaking all previous records. More jobs have been lost in the past nine weeks than during the entire 18 months of the Great Recession.

Recruiters who have a digital-first mindset can harness the power of technology and adapt quickly to virtual ways of working to hire these workers looking for jobs. However, it is imperative that even when conducting the full hiring process virtually — from assessments to interviews to onboarding — we don’t lose the human touch and leave candidates feeling isolated.

The pandemic is accelerating the proliferation of artificial intelligence and candidate screening tools that are helping HR teams streamline recruiting and hiring. Gamified assessments are an example of these tools.

But as the CEO of a gamified recruiting platform, I’ve learned firsthand that not all of these assessments are the same. Gamified assessments can help identify top talent, improve the overall candidate experience and more. To truly see the benefits of using these types of solutions, however, it’s important that leaders are educated on the features they should be looking for in a recruitment platform that is powered by gamification.

Virtual assessment centers: A virtual assessment center is essentially an all-inclusive platform that may involve a gamified assessment, video-based interview, case study presentation and a number of other activities to test candidates on multiple aspects like aptitude, cognitive skills, communication skills and behavioral traits. Not all gamified recruitment solution providers offer virtual assessment centers. For companies, these assessment centers provide end-to-end recruitment solutions by which recruiters can find the best applicants while also offering a fun and engaging candidate experience.

Automated reports: I encourage leaders to also consider choosing platforms that follow these online assessments and interviews with automated reports. They can help save the hassle of managing data manually, reduce hiring costs and maintain the accuracy of the results.

Competency model-based assessments: Finally, I recommend looking at whether the platform you’re considering offers competency model-based assessments. Whether it is a ready-to-play game or a customized one, these solutions can offer organizations a chance to build their own unique recruitment game by selecting a set of competencies most relevant to their company’s culture, employer brand and personality. Competency-based game assessments arm recruiters with the data they need to hire for a stellar on-the-job performance.

As you can see, there are a few things to consider if you’re thinking about investing in a gamified recruitment platform. By looking at the types of features the platform offers and choosing the solution that best fits your company’s needs, you can ensure your adoption of a gamified recruitment platform is a success.
