Stormy Daniels And Michael Cohen Bury The Hatchet, Discuss Alleged Trump Affair

Topline

Stormy Daniels is bracing for a “second wave” of controversy and abuse as she prepares to continue her litigation attempts against former President Donald Trump, the adult film star said in an appearance on a podcast hosted by the former president’s ex-attorney Michael Cohen, as the former foes talked about Trump’s alleged affair with Daniels and subsequent hush money payment in 2016.

Key Facts

On the podcast, which is set to air on Monday, Cohen apologized to Daniels for putting her through “needless pain” when he arranged a $130,000 payment to her during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, to keep her quiet about her alleged affair with the former president, the Associated Press reported.

Despite it bringing her major financial success and fame, Daniels said she regrets her links with Trump, and added that if she could make everything go back to the way it was before, “I would absolutely do that.”

The adult film star said that the last few weeks of Trump’s presidency felt like the “eye of the storm,” as headlines about her subsided and so did the death threats from the former president’s supporters while her legal cases against Trump remained in limbo.

But she noted that she was bracing for a “second wave” of controversy as she pursues a defamation suit against Trump in the U.S. Supreme Court—one of the many legal cases the former president faces now that he is no longer in office.

Daniels also described her alleged 2006 sexual encounter with Trump, which she called “the worst 90 seconds of my life.”

Daniels noted that while she did not feel “physically threatened,” at one point she  thought about how to escape the room thinking, “I could definitely outrun him.”

Key Background

Cohen and Daniels were both vaulted into the national spotlight after Cohen was found to have arranged a $130,000 payment to the adult film star to keep her quiet about her alleged encounter with Trump, which the former president has denied. Amid her newfound fame, Daniels released a book called “Full Disclosure” in which she wrote about her alleged sexual encounter with Trump. She also invited scorn from critics after she performed at strip clubs across the country in 2018 as part of her “Make America Horny Again” tour. Cohen was charged by federal prosecutors of breaking campaign finance laws by arranging the hush money payment to Daniels and making a similar payment to former-Playboy model Karen McDougal. The former president’s ex-lawyer pleaded guilty to the violations as well as lying to Congress and tax evasion and was sentenced to three years in federal prison. Cohen has since become a fervent critic of his former boss.

Tangent

Cohen was released in July as part of an attempt to curb the spread of Covid-19 in federal prisons, and he has been serving the rest of his sentence from his Manhattan apartment. Since September he has been recording his podcast ‘Mea Culpa’ from his apartment. In his podcast, Cohen has been harshly critical of the former president’s actions, especially his last days in office which saw a mob of his supporters storming the U.S. Capitol building.
