Taylor Swift, Harry Styles, Nicki Minaj And Pop Smoke: 5 Important Moves On This Week’s Hot 100

For the second week in a row, Taylor Swift claims double-digit spots on the Hot 100, proving that at least some of the songs featured on her recent album Folklore weren’t just instant smashes that were destined to vanish immediately. While she is still controlling quite a bit of the ranking, a number of new cuts debut on the list while one musician collects his first chart-topper.

Here’s a look at five of the most important moves on this week’s Hot 100 singles chart.

No. 1 – Harry Styles – “Watermelon Sugar”

Harry Styles scores his first No. 1 hit with his third solo top 10 (and his ninth overall when including the music he released as a member of One Direction). “Watermelon Sugar,” a catchy pop-rock tune featured on his sophomore full-length Fine Line, jumps from No. 7 all the way to the peak position, replacing Swift’s “Cardigan” in the top spot on this week’s Hot 100.

No. 8 – Taylor Swift – “Cardigan”

Speaking of Swift, the singer’s “Cardigan,” which debuted in first place last week, falls to No. 8 this time around. That’s a noticeable dip, but thanks to several chart-toppers falling further in one tumble, it doesn’t stand as one of the biggest in history.

“Cardigan” is one of 11 Swift songs taking up space on the Hot 100 this week, which is down from the 16 she occupied last frame.

No. 19 – A$AP Ferg – “Move Ya Hips (ft. Nicki Minaj and MadeinTYO)”

The trio of A$AP Ferg, MadeinTYO and Nicki Minaj has proved to be a particularly powerful one, as the three musicians debut their new single “Move Ya Hips” at No. 19, scoring the second-highest-ranking start of the week (behind Billie Eilish’s “My Future,” which kicks off at No. 6). The tune is likely to be featured on Ferg’s forthcoming project, and it gives Minaj her one-hundred-and-eleventh placement on the Hot 100, which ties the rapper for the fourth-most appearances ever.

No. 25 – Pop Smoke – “Mood Swings (ft. Lil Tjay)”

Up to a new peak of No. 25 is Pop Smoke and Lil Tjay’s “Mood Swings,” which has become a standout track from the former’s posthumous No. 1 album Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon. The tune jumps into the top 40 for the first time, advancing from No. 44 to No. 25 in one giant leap. In doing so, it becomes the eighth top 40 smash from the set, which encompasses all of Smoke’s biggest hits. Tjay collects his second appearance in the region with the win.

No. 43 – Dan + Shay – “I Should Probably Go to Bed”

Months after they started to release songs that will be featured on their forthcoming fourth full-length with the Justin Bieber-featuring “10,000 Hours,” Dan + Shay return with another new cut, “I Should Probably Go to Bed.” The tune barely misses out on becoming the duo’s fifth top 40 hit by a few spaces, but it could climb into the important region soon enough.
