Taylor Swift Passes Whitney Houston For The Most Weeks At No. 1 On The Albums Chart Among Women

After taking two weeks off from running the Billboard 200, Taylor Swift is back in charge of the most important albums chart in the U.S. The country-pop-folk star returns to the summit with Folklore, her surprise release which has turned out to be one of the most successful launches in recent memory. Now, with one more turn atop the tally to her credit, the singer-songwriter breaks out of a tie with one of the most beloved vocalists of all time.

According to Billboard, Swift has now spent a total of 47 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 throughout her career, which is enough to secure her the title of the female musician with the most turns atop the all-genre ranking in history.

Before this week, Swift was tied with Whitney Houston for that honor, as both women had managed 46 frames as high as a musician can climb. Now, she’s passed the late vocalist, and no other women are close enough to seriously challenge her for this specific spot on the history books…at least not yet.

Swift first reached the top spot on the Billboard 200 back in 2008 with Fearless, her sophomore full-length. That set went on to spend 11 nonconsecutive turns atop the list, and that would turn out to be just the beginning for the still-rising star.

The Grammy winner also ruled over the all-encompassing albums ranking with Speak Now (six weeks), Red (seven weeks), 1989 (11 weeks), Reputation (four weeks), Lover (one week) and now Folklore (seven weeks).

Houston gathered together her 46 frames at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 with just four leaders, with three of them living in the penthouse for double-digit turns. The powerhouse singer’s rulers include her self-titled debut (14 weeks), her also semi-self-titled sophomore effort Whitney (11 weeks), the soundtrack that accompanied the film The Bodyguard (20 weeks) and her final controller, I Look to You (one week).

At this point, even if Folklore falls from the highest rung on the Billboard 200 and never returns, it already stands out as one of the more successful projects of her career, and it has now racked up the most frames in charge of the list this year.
