Texas Reports More Coronavirus Deaths In A Day Than Any State Outside Northeast

Texas has again set a sobering new record in the state’s coronavirus crisis, reporting 324 coronavirus deaths Wednesday, which is the highest single-day total in any state outside the Northeast.

Deaths typically follow a rise in hospitalizations, which in turn follows a rise in cases. The latter two statistics have been declining for the past few weeks, as they have in many other states that were hard-hit by the coronavirus this summer. Florida is in a similar position, where most metrics are dropping, but the state is still setting record highs for deaths.

While it’s the highest death count any state has reported in months, the Texas toll is far below the highest any state has reported. During mid-April, New York averaged over 700 deaths a day.
