Thanks To The Netflix Show ‘Ozark,’ REO Speedwagon Is Back On The Charts In A Major Way

Fans of the Netflix show Ozark had to wait a year and a half for the series to return for its third season, and when it was finally made available to stream late last month, those who tuned in were treated to a surprise cameo by one of the most beloved pop-rock bands of the past several decades.

The third episode of the latest season features REO Speedwagon, as well as the fan favorite song “Time for Me to Fly,” which is played twice. Lovers of the show and the outfit were clearly influenced to go out and buy and stream the group’s back catalog, and not just one track.

Due to the REO Speedwagon’s prominent placement and the use of their music, the band is back on a number of Billboard charts in a way they haven’t experienced in some time.

Hot Rock Songs

On the most competitive rock chart, REO Speedwagon debuts four tracks, and they now count four total career placements, as they landed the majority of their most successful singles long before Billboard established the tally.

The band collects their first top 10 hit on the Hot Rock Songs chart with “Keep On Loving You,” which opens at No. 10. Not far behind come “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” “Time for Me to Fly” and “Take It On the Run,” which enter at Nos. 13, 15 and 16, respectively.

Rock Digital Song Sales

Since Ozark used “Time for Me to Fly” more than once, it’s no surprise that it turned out to be the bestselling of the bunch, and it almost became the band’s first No. 1 on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, which was also established after their time in the spotlight waned. That cut blasts onto the tally in the runner-up rung this frame behind only Bob Dylan’s new single.

Also present inside the top 10 on that list this time around is “Keep on Loving You,” which debuts at No. 5. “Take It on the Run” lands at No. 12, while “Can’t Fight This Feeling” re-enters the roster (it’s the only title from the group currently present that has previously made it to the chart) jumps in at No. 17, a new high point.

Top Rock Albums

Despite being a hugely successful band that straddled the line between pop and rock, REO Speedwagon had never placed a single project onto Billboard’s Top Rock Albums chart…that is until this week. Their 1988 compilation The Hits, which did make it to the Billboard 200 (it peaked at No. 56) starts at No. 49, the second-lowest rung on the list.

Digital Song Sales

As is the case with the rock charts mentioned above, the all-genre Digital Song Sales ranking wasn’t around when REO Speedwagon dominated the radio waves, and thus they’ve never appeared on the tally. Now, “Time for Me to Fly” drives to No. 34, becoming their first hit.
