The 10 Most-Watched Movies On Netflix In January 2021

It has been an interesting month for Netflix’s
NFLX
Top 10 list for movies. At this point, eight different films have held the #1 position on the daily charts. And with such a wide variety of movies dominating the streaming service’s popularity charts, the January rankings have produced quite an eclectic list.

So which movies have dominated Netflix this most in January? We have a pretty good idea of this thanks to our Top 10 points system. Each day, we keep track of where a movie has ranked on the daily charts. And the higher a movie ranks, the more points it receives.

Based on that points system, here are the ten movies that have commanded the streaming platform the most to start the new year.

9. (tie) Pieces of a Woman – 58 points

Pieces of a Woman got off to a hot start earlier this month when it premiered in the #1 spot. But that first-place reign would only last two days. And very soon after, the Vanessa Kirby drama would completely exit the daily rankings. In total, Pieces of a Woman only spent seven days on the Top 10 list.

9. (tie) Cut Throat City – 58 points

Cut Throat City is experiencing a similar run to Pieces of a Woman’s. RZA’s film premiered in the first-place position, only to drop down to second place on its second and third days. And today, Cut Throat City has fallen to the #8 slot, and may very well exit the Top 10 by tomorrow.

8. Penguins of Madagascar – 78 points

Penguins of Madagascar has enjoyed an impressive run since its Jan. 17 debut on Netflix. While the animated film hasn’t risen above the #3 position, it also didn’t fall below the sixth-place spot during its 14-day run until today.

7. Unknown – 90 points

Unknown was officially the first viral film on Netflix in 2021, as the Liam Neeson thriller spent four consecutive days atop the Top 10 rankings. That helped Unknown capture 90 total points and the sixth-place position on this list, despite only spending 12 days on the Top 10 charts.

6. Good Burger – 91 points

The most unlikely candidate to make this list, Good Burger surprised everyone with its substantial run earlier this month. Despite never owning the first-place spot, the children’s film spent 15 days on the Top 10 charts and put together 91 points.

5. Homefront – 95 points

The top movie of last week was Homefront, which put together 67 points of the maximum possibly 70 points this week. That run included four days in the first-place position followed by three more days in the #2 slot.

4. The Vanished – 97 points

The dark horse candidate of the month has been The Vanished, which has spent all 13 days of its Netflix run on the Top 10 charts. Seven of those days has been spent in either the second-place or third-place position. The Vanished has remained steady in those slots despite some heavy competition.

3. Outside the Wire – 106 points

It was no surprise when Outside the Wire spent its first six days in the #1 position. Much like other action films that Netflix has produced—such as The Old Guard and Project Power—this Anthony Mackie vehicle was destined for greatness when it premiered on Jan. 15. Since then, Outside the Wire has spent every day on the Top 10 charts.

2. 17 Again – 109 points

If it wasn’t for a stellar performance from We Can Be Heroes, then 17 Again would likely be the #1 movie in January for Netflix. The Zac Efron film spent a total of 17 days on the Top 10 charts, which included three days in second place and four days in third place.

1. We Can Be Heroes – 219 points

This was really no contest. We Can Be Heroes was the only movie on Netflix to spend each day of January (thus far) on the Top 10 charts. In fact, the Robert Rodriguez film’s Top 10 streak dates back to its premiere on Christmas Day in 2020. That means We Can Be Heroes has spent 36 consecutive days on the charts—a feat only five other movies have accomplished.
