The Best Movies To Stream On Amazon Prime This Weekend

Each weekend, Amazon
AMZN
Primes adds a bevy of movies to its already massive digital library. Which means you’ll always have a slew of new movies to choose from in addition to thousands of other films you’re waiting to discover.

But how to do navigate all of these movie options? Obviously, it’s a daunting task—but hopefully this article can help.

To help narrow down the search, this article will highlight two movies that will be newly added to Amazon Prime this weekend, as well as three other movies I recommend you check out.

New Movies

Seven Stages to Eternal Bliss (2018)

Seven Stages to Eternal Bliss (by the way, the full title is Seven Stages to Achieve Eternal Bliss by Passing Through the Gateway Chosen by the Holy Storsh (wow)) may not be the name of a movie you’d immediately recognize. But the cast is full of character actors you might know: Kate Micucci, Brian Posehn, Rhea Seehorn, Dan Harmon, Oscar-winner Taika Waititi, etc. The comedy follows a small-town couple that decides to move to a big-city apartment. Unfortunately, they soon find out that their building is home to a deranged cult.

Target Number One (2020)

You know, I was wondering where Josh Hartnett had gone. Turns out he’s the star of Target Number One, aka Most Wanted. New to Amazon Prime this weekend, this dramatic crime film follows an investigative reporter who fights to expose the truth behind a heroin bust orchestrated by dirty cops.

Other Movie Recommendations

Time (2020)

Slowly but surely, America has come to terms with an unassailable truth: our prison system is broken. Our criminal justice system does not believe in forgiveness or rehabilitation, but instead shame and punishment. “Do the crime, do the time,” essentially.

Luckily, there are people on the ground fighting the fight that needs to be fought. And that includes Fox Rich—a Black woman who misses her husband, Rob, who was sentenced to 60 years in prison (with no option for parole) after robbing a bank in a moment when his family desperately needed money.

For 20 years, Fox has fought for her husband’s release—which is a long time. And capturing the pain and longing a woman feels for her husband over the course of 20 years isn’t easy.

Luckily, a consummate filmmaker like Garrett Bradley made a documentary called Time that provides a tiny-yet-profound glimpse into the kind of turmoil so many people in this country face each and every day.

Climax (2018)

Allow me to introduce you to one of my favorite directors: Gaspar Noé. This French auteur has made several classics during his short career—including Irreversible and Enter the Void (my favorite movie ever, by the way)—and now we might have to add Climax to the mix.

This movie features a dance troupe whose sangria is spiked with LSD during a party. From there…well, all hell breaks loose (possibly literally?). This is a horrifying-yet-entertaining film is an unpredictable thrill from beginning to end.

The Farewell (2019)

The Farewell was one of the biggest sleeper hits of 2019. Critics loved it, and Awkafina won a Golden Globe for her performance in it.

The movie follows Billi, whose family travels back to China to say goodbye to their dying grandmother. The only catch? The grandma doesn’t know she’s dying—and nobody is telling her.

This is a very interesting movie that pulls you into the Chinese-American experience and evaluates the difference between Eastern and Western values.
