The Buccaneers And Their  Billionaire Owners End Years Of Mediocrity With Commanding Super Bowl LV Win

Tom Brady’s 10th Super Bowl — and seventh win — has brought long-sought redemption to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the billionaires who have owned the team for more than a quarter century.

“My father had an expression,” said Joel Glazer on behalf of his family Sunday night, “If you wanna know the road ahead, ask the person who’s been there. Well, we found that person. Ten Super Bowl appearances and seven victories — Tom Brady!” Joel and brothers Edward and Bryan all co-chair the Buccaneers, while sister Darcie is president of the organization’s foundation and the Glazer Vision Foundation.

Brady led the Bucs to a 31-9 victory over the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV Sunday, crowning a renaissance year for the team. The family guaranteed the veteran quarterback $50 million, who returned the Vince Lombardi Trophy to a city that’s been waiting since 2003.

Patriarch Malcolm Glazer bought the team in 1995 for a then-record $192 million. Now valued at $2.28 billion, the Buccaneers remain one of American football’s lowliest franchises, ranked No. 29 on the 2020 Forbes list of the most valuable NFL teams.

It’s the kind of win they will now seek to deliver fans of English soccer club Manchester United, who have been grumbling about the American family’s ownership since they took control in 2005. Man U, valued in 2019 at $3.81 billion by Forbes, is on its own championship chase in the U.K.’s Premier League.

The Chiefs are owned by the $15.5 billion Hunt family and ranked No. 23 on the Forbes list with a value of $2.5 billion.
