The Walking Dead’s Fake Season 10 Finale Is Tonight, Cut One Episode Short Due To Coronavirus

The Walking Dead fans are in for a bit of a letdown as while many shows are ending their seasons early due to issues with the coronavirus pandemic, The Walking Dead season 10 is being forced to end just one episode short of its planned season finale next week because post-production work on the episode couldn’t be finished.

That leaves us with episode 15 of the season, The Tower, as the last episode of the season until the finale arrives later this year.

I’ve seen the episode. I won’t get into details other than to say I liked different aspects of it, but naturally it does feel much more like the lead-up to a finale than a finale itself. Fortunately, there are not any ultra-crazy cliffhangers that will drive anyone mad, it just sort of ends on an anticlimax because you know there is definitely one more episode that needs to happen to likely end the Whisperer conflict once and for all. I’ll go into more detail about all this tomorrow, including what the episode likely says about the actual season finale.

The Walking Dead has had more issues than most due the pandemic given the number of shows affected. The season 10 finale was supposed to lead directly into The Walking Dead: World Beyond, a new spin-off series that has now been delayed indefinitely due to the pandemic. I’ve seen the first episode, but the embargo for impressions got pushed back too, so I can’t talk about it yet. This is in addition to filming on Fear the Walking Dead season 6 and The Walking Dead season 11 being pushed back too, which means the entire “usual” order of things (Fear in summer, TWD returns in October) is probably going to be screwed up.

As for this season, we have two major events that still need to happen after (spoilers) Negan killed Alpha a few episodes back. First, something has to be done about Beta and his new horde and the rest of the Whisperers, which are still a threat even though Alpha is gone. Secondly, we were promised that Maggie would return at some point this season, and she was directly referenced last episode when they said she was sent a letter about Alpha and the Hilltop. So she’s likely on her way to rejoin the cast on a more permanent basis before this season ends.

It’s a bummer, because I think everything about season 10 has been very good (other than Michonne’s awkward exit) and I wish we could finish out the season like we were supposed to. But I suppose other shows have had to deal with even worse issues, and we’ll get to see this finale soon enough.
