This New Face Mask Subscription Service Serves Fictional And Real-Life Superheroes

If you’ve doubted whether face masks would indeed become ‘the new normal’, it’s time to become a believer—after startling Stateside success, Europe is getting its very own face mask subscription service.

The service, MaskClub, has been operational for just over one month in the US, donating one mask to healthcare workers for every mask sold.

To date, the company has donated over 100,000 masks to first responders, and it doesn’t want to stop there.

“Like many businesses, when the pandemic hit America it impacted us significantly,” says CEO Trevor George. His company, Trevco, is known as one of the world’s largest soft line manufacturers of licensed merchandise.

“Overnight, our sales fell by 60 per cent. For about three weeks, all I could do was try to keep our company alive.”

Desperate but conscious of the pandemic’s greater impact, George and his wife helped their local hospital procure 250,000 face masks.

“All this time, my wife had been pushing me to do something. I told her I thought it would be impossible to make masks ourselves, but she didn’t give up.

“One day, sitting at home in quarantine, my wife yelled ‘I KNOW YOU CAN DO SOMETHING’ and I got up and said ‘okay’.”

Within four days the pair launched MaskClub in the US—supply chain, big brand partnerships, subscription e-commerce website, and all. “It was the craziest four days of my life and I will never forget it.”

With thousands of officially licensed designs available from day one, the company went viral. “My wife and I and all of our employees, especially the ones we were able to bring back to our company, are truly humbled by the response.”

Of course, Trevco’s existing relationships with the likes of Warner Bros., Care Bears and Sesame Street didn’t hurt. As a subsidiary, MaskClub is the only place you can shop iconic Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman designs alongside trend-led tie dye, camo and animal prints.

And, with so many states and businesses requiring people to don face masks, they certainly seem to offer a little reprieve from Covid-19.

“If businesses can’t figure out how to help and do good, while providing a product or service, then that’s not right,” says George. “There is no vaccine that will solve our problem right now. It will take something from everyone and every business to truly make an impact globally.”

In fact, that’s part of MaskClub’s grand expansion plan. The company launches in the UK today with locally-made face masks, at MaskClub.eu, with the rest of Europe soon to follow.

“The key for us is that [the amount donated in each country] goes to help each country. So when a customer buys masks from the UK, we will donate to the UK. And when they buy in France or Spain, we want the proceeds to go to France or Spain.

“Instead of donating face masks in the UK and Europe, we will donate 10 per cent of our sales,” he shares, sentient to global distribution hurdles. “This means we will need to align with a charitable organization in each country—but we are working on this as we speak.”
