This Week In XR, Part Deux: Disney Dumps The VOID, Zoom Killer JioMeet Launches

So annoying when you try to get ahead of the holiday weekend by dropping This Week in XR on the Thursday before a holiday weekend, and two major stories develop after hitting send. Here they are.

First up, India’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani, launched JioMeet, a video-conference service that looks a lot like Zoom. But it’s free. And there are no time limits on calls, which can accommodate up to 100 people. Full dope on Techcrunch.

Disney evicts The VOID, withdraws Star Wars and Wreck It Ralph licenses. There’s no good way to spin this. The VOID was beset with management and money woes when they were accepted into the Disney accelerator in late 2018. It seemed like a love match, and not a moment too soon for the VOID. Disney made a small investment, gave The VOID prime retail real estate in Orlando and Anaheim, and access to their most important IP (Star Wars). Without its own IP, saddled with expensive leases, and no path to revenue anytime soon, it’s unclear how the pioneering LBVR company will survive this.

ICYMI, here’s the link to the rest of this week’s roundup.

Now can we go on vacation?
