Tom Brady’s Patriots Career Is Done After Earning $350 Million On And Off The Field

After months of speculation, Tom Brady’s career with the New England Patriots is over after 20 years, per the quarterback’s social media announcement where he thanked Pats fans. It was a stunning run on the field with six Super Bowl wins in nine trips, 17 AFC titles, 14 Pro Bowls, three NFL MVPs and a 77% winning percentage.

Brady’s off-field game was also strong. He turned down most endorsement deals but managed to still bank at least $10 million annually off the field in recent years from sponsors, memorabilia and licensing and more than $100 million since he was drafted in 2000. His total earnings over two decades in New England were an estimated $350 million, including the $235 million the Patriots paid him in salary and bonuses.

The sixth-round draft pick was often lauded for taking less money in salary to help the Pats allocate financial resources elsewhere in a league where the salary cap makes every dollar precious. The average salary on his current contract of $23 million ranked 13th among NFL QBs last season, behind Alex Smith in Washington and just ahead of Denver’s Joe Flacco.

Despite taking home team discounts, Brady’s $235 million in on-field earnings still rank second highest among current NFL players with only Drew Brees ahead of him at $245 million. The only players in NFL history ahead of Brady and Brees are fellow QBs, Eli ($252 million) and Peyton Manning ($249 million).
