Trump Falsely Claims Credit For Pfizer Vaccine, Though Company Did Not Take Government Funds

“Pfizer said that it was not part of Warp Speed, but that turned out to be an unfortunate misrepresentation,” Trump said, claiming the company took $1.95 billion in funds despite fact-checkers already debunking that claim.

The comments come after several Trump allies, including Vice President Mike Pence and White House adviser Ivanka Trump, both tried to give the administration credit.

The company did, indeed, sign an agreement to sell 100 million doses to the Department of Health and Human Services once the vaccine is authorized by the Food and Drug Administration, a Pfizer spokesperson told Forbes.

However, Pfizer’s head of vaccine research and development told the New York Times that they “were never part of the Warp Speed” and did not take taxpayer money for vaccine research.
