UFC Fight Night 172: Claudia Gadelha Vs. Angela Hill Odds And Prediction

Angela Hill has earned her spot in the co-main event of a weekend show. She will take on Claudia Gadelha on Saturday night at VyStar Veteran Memorial Arena in an important strawweight scrap.

Hill is on a tear and Gadelha is trying to solidify her position before trying to reascend the division’s latter in hopes of getting another crack at the title.

Here are the latest odds.

Odds

  • Claudia Gadelha -203
  • Angela Hill +173

Per BetOnline

The former strawweight title challenger is a solid favorite to win this one, but let’s take a closer look at the matchup.

Striking

From a technical striking standpoint, Hill has more weapons. She puts combinations together and changes levels with her striking using kicks, punches and knees to score.

However, Gadelha has a bit more power in her hands. If there is someone in this fight with the ability to score a one-punch KO, it would be Gadelha, though Hill has proven to be a bit too tough to succumb to that sort of finish in most fights.

She has never been stopped from strikes in her career.

Grappling and Submissions

Hill’s biggest weakness is her grappling.

She’s not a threat to submit her opponents (she has none in her career), and seems to prefer to keep the fight standing. She has done some damage to past foes from top position, but overall things go south when Hill is taken down.

She is 3-6 in the UFC when her opponent scores a takedown and 4-1 when she avoids them.

Gadelha is one of the best at securing takedowns in women’s mixed martial arts. She has 33 takedowns in her 10 fights in the UFC. It’s clear what each woman’s objective will be in this fight.

Intangibles

Hill is riding as high as she ever has in the UFC. Her current three-fight win streak is her best since she reeled off four in a row with Invicta FC during another super active streak in 2016.

Gadelha hasn’t looked her best recently, though she is coming off a victory over Randa Markos in her last fight. Hill has the momentum, but is that going to be enough?

Prediction

As much as I love Hill’s work ethic, striking and toughness, I don’t think she’ll be able to prevent Gadelha from taking her down. I know Hill has probably been working feverishly on her takedown defense, but it’s difficult to imagine she will have closed that gap enough to beat Gadelha.

I also don’t believe she has the power to stop Gadelha with strikes, thus I’m going with the latter by unanimous decision.
