Why Eye is the Slight Favorite

Eye has faced a who’s who in the flyweight and bantamweight division. She’s been in with Miesha Tate, Bethe Correia, Sara McMann, Sarah Kauffman, and back in 2018, Eye was smashed by current champion Valentino Shevchenko.

Ever the resilient one, Eye rebounded from that loss to defeat Viviane Araujo to maintain her spot as the top contender in the division. Eye has average striking, good takedowns, and she is physically strong for the weight class. She’ll likely never be a champion, but her fire and toughness ensures she’s always a game opponent.

Oddsmakers likely favor Eye because of her experience and what could be a size advantage over Calvillo.

Calvillo’s Chances for an Upset

A win by Calvillo obviously wouldn’t be a huge upset. She’s barely the underdog. Calvillo has a nice well-rounded game, but she doesn’t have much power on her feet. She wants to get the fight to the ground where some believe she will have an advantage.

If Calvillo is to get the win, that’s more than likely where she will find it. Her boxing is decent, but the length is on Eye’s side and Calvillo may have a hard time closing that gap. If she can get it to the ground, Calvillo will have her best opportunity to get the victory and to pull the minor upset.

Prediction

This is a fight will almost certainly go the distance unless Calvillo can get the submission. However, I don’t believe we’ll see that. Instead, I’m looking for Eye to take two out of three rounds on two judges cards in a hard-fought bout en route to a victory by split decision.
