What Will Become Of The NBA Today After A Momentous Wednesday?

The NBA will no doubt be keeping a close eye on Orange County, Florida, today to see if the spike in coronavirus cases continues in the place they plan to call home.

And basketball fans will be keeping a close eye on the internet to see if any more players test positive after three cases were reported Wednesday — Alex Len and Jabari Parker of the Sacramento Kings and Malcolm Brogdon of the Indiana Pacers.

Hey, in 2020, you have to expect the unexpected on any given day, whether it is in regards to the NBA or society at large.

What is most important to the powers that be at the NBA is the spike in coronavirus cases in the county where Orlando is located. Orange County reported 6,056 new cases and 53 deaths Wednesday as the pandemic that has changed Americans’ lives continued to get worse in several states.

Among them was Florida, where residents now must quarantine themselves for 14 days if they choose to travel to New York. The NBA is planning to resume its season in five weeks at Walt Disney World, but the nature of the pandemic .. and apparent flaws in the bubble planning surrounding the resumption … has everyone on edge.

Since Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz tested positive in early March and the season was suspended, numerous NBA players, officials and players’ family members have tested positive. The exact number is positive cases is unknown.

“Several days ago I tested positive for COVID-19 and immediately self-isolated in Chicago which is where I remain,” Parker said. “I am progressing in my recovery and feeling well. I look forward to joining my teammates in Orlando as we return to the court for the resumption of the NBA season.”

Brogdon posted his news on Twitter through his team:

Len announced his news on Instagram, and there were reports that teammate Buddy Hield also had tested positive. This all came after Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets also tested positive in Serbia after being seen with tennis star Novac Djokevic, who tested positive on Tuesday.

What we learned Wednesday about the NBA was par for the course at a time when the news cycle brings unexpected twists and turns on an hourly basis. Just one day ago, Knicks president Leon Rose was a mystery man who had not been quoted in the nation’s largest media market, although that changed when he spoke with Mike Breen of MSG Network
MSGN
and the team announced the hiring of William “Worldwide Wes” Wesley.

The Knicks are on ice until December, but there are 22 teams that still have something to play for as the sports world counts down the clock to late July.

There are five weeks of waiting left, and if Wednesday taught us anything is was that we need to expect more of the unexpected as this strange year continues.
