Will There Be A Season 4 Of ‘Westworld’ On HBO?

One of the many mysteries of Westworld’s third season has been whether or not the show would continue or whether this was the end.

That mystery was just put to bed by HBO. As of today, the show has been renewed for a fourth season. There are just two episodes left in Season 3.

“From the western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy,” noted HBO’s president of Programming, Casey Bloys. “We can’t wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next.”

Mystery does remain, however. There was a yawning two-year gap between Season 2 and Season 3 that left many viewers a little baffled. That gap could be repeated again, especially with TV production at a standstill due to the continued stay-at-home orders in place during the coronavirus pandemic. Nobody knows how long those will last, and pretty much everything is on hold.

Season 3 of Westworld has been interesting, and I’ve found myself waffling between greatly enjoying it thanks to the slick production and top-notch acting, and wondering what the point of it is to begin with. Readers know I’ve mused plenty on whether the show ever should have moved past its first, brilliant season—or, alternatively, become an anthology series, introducing new characters and stories each season.

I suppose I’m still glad it exists. It may not be as perfect as the first season but it’s still one of the best shows on TV right now.

Like every other HBO show, Westworld will also be available on HBO Max this coming May.
