Will Travis Scott Score Another No. 1 Debut Next Week With His New Single?

This past Friday (April 24), Travis Scott and Kid Cudi teamed up to release their joint new single “The Scotts,” and fans were quick to stream and purchase the much-hyped cut the minute it was out. Now, just a few days into its first tracking frame, the song is already headed toward a very impressive debut on the Hot 100, and it could possibly even rise all the way to No. 1 as it arrives.

It’s too early to project exactly how well “The Scotts” will perform in terms of first-week sales or streams, but both are sure to be sizable, and the combination of the two may be large enough to compensate for what will surely be somewhat lackluster attention from radio, as is typically the case with brand new tunes.

In its first day of availability, “The Scotts” reportedly ranked as the No. 1 track on Spotify with just under 7.5 million streams. That’s a huge figure, and it’s enough to give the song the largest single-day debut on the world’s most popular streaming platform of 2020, overcoming Billie Eilish’s James Bond theme song “No Time to Die.” Not all of those plays are from listeners in America, but a large portion probably are, and that sum is only one day out of seven, so the first-week total is bound to be very impressive.

“The Scotts” was teased throughout Scott’s virtual tour in the online game Fortnite, and over a two-day period, fans could listen to snippets of the cut before it arrived in full. Once it dropped, many of the 12 million attendees likely rushed to hear the complete tune, helping its streaming figures climb even higher.

Also helping “The Scotts” rack up a healthy stream count are a number of YouTube visuals that all feature the cut, and they are all present on Scott’s own YouTube page. In addition to being purchasable on sites like Amazon and iTunes, super fans of either Scott or Kid Cudi (or both artists) can also snag copies of their new hit on vinyl, CD single or even cassette, which will surely up the introductory sales total.

If “The Scotts” does debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100, it will mark the third chart-topper for Scott and the first for Kid Cudi. Scott first rose all the way to the throne on the all-genre songs listing in 2018 with “Sicko Mode,” and then he debuted his recent smash “Highest in the Room” atop the ranking late last year. If the tune does open in charge of the most important tally, Scott will become one of only a few musicians who have scored more than a single No. 1 debut, joining the likes of Mariah Carey and Drake in the process.
