With One Hit Single, BTS Proved Their Popularity And Power On The Streaming Chart

When BTS’s new single “Dynamite” arrived, fans rushed to consume it any way they could. They bought the cut in massive numbers (which helped it open with the largest one-week sales sum in years), requested it at their local radio station (which helped the band rise higher than ever before on the pop airplay chart) and streamed it everywhere, from Apple Music to Spotify to YouTube and more.

All those plays on websites and mobile apps helped the track become an instant smash on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart, and with just one cut, they made history on the all-genre tally.

Second-Highest-Charting Single By A South Korean Musician

“Dynamite” debuted at No. 3 on the Streaming Songs chart, and while it’s a bit disappointing the cut didn’t rise all the way to the top spot, that placement is still lofty enough to make it the second-highest-charting tune by a South Korean musical act in the roster’s history.

Only one South Korean musician (with two singles) has risen higher on the Streaming Songs chart. Both of Psy’s smashes, “Gangnam Style” and then “Gentleman,” lifted to the peak position, and since then, no other tune produced by a musician from the Asian country has managed to reach the penthouse.

Highest-Charting Single By A South Korean Group

“Dynamite” now stands as the highest-rising track in the history of the Streaming Songs chart among all groups, with BTS beating their own previous best showing. Before this latest giant arrived, the septet’s own “Boy With Luv,” a collaboration with pop singer Halsey, rose to No. 5. That stood as the highest-ranking cut by a South Korean non-soloist until last week.

Tied For The Most Top 10 Hits Among South Korean Musicians

With one more true hit on the Streaming Songs chart, BTS ties another star from their home country for the most top 10 smashes on the list. Both BTS and Psy have sent three tunes into the uppermost tier, but while the latter artist seems to be done with his moment in the sun in the U.S., the former is bound to collect another at some point, perhaps very soon.

Psy’s “Gangnam Style,” “Gentleman” and “Hangover” with Snoop Dogg rose to Nos. 1, 1 and 4, respectively, while BTS’s “Dynamite,” “Boy With Luv” with Halsey and “Fake Love” drove to Nos. 3, 5 and 7, respectively.
