WWE Hell In A Cell 2020 Results: Otis And The Winners, Losers Of Shocking PPV

WWE Hell in a Cell 2020 delivered multiple newsworthy, if not surprising, results as The Miz defeated Otis for the Money in the Bank briefcase following a shocking heel turn from Tucker. Meanwhile, Drew McIntyre suffered his first pay-per-view loss of 2020—and just his second pinfall loss of the year—to Randy Orton.

With a new Money in the Bank winner and a new WWE champion on the same show, there are several directions WWE can take with WrestleMania season around the corner, including Edge returning to challenge Randy Orton for the WWE Championship in a WrestleMania 36 rematch.

Given the many major developments, there were also a handful of clear winners and losers as WWE heads into its next Big Four pay-per-view in Survivor Series.

Winner: The Anoa’i Family

Everybody played their parts perfectly in the latest chapter of the WWE’s miniseries that is is the Anoa’i Head of the Table storyline.

Roman Reigns continued to show off his acting chops, chops may land him alongside Cousin Dwayne in Hollywood permanently, as he broke down and cried before reverting back to becoming a monster heel for a gripping and emotional finish. In an era of fan that has become desensitized to the nuts and bolts of pro wrestling, prioritizing flashy moves over storylines, Reigns and Jey Uso boldly slowed the pace of their match in favor of basic storytelling despite being supreme athletes.

Where Reigns and his cousins go from here will be fascinating enough to keep audiences intrigued in what has quickly become WWE’s best storyline.

Loser: Otis

Otis was the big loser of the night as WWE continues its trend of sabotaging up-and-coming talent in position to succeed. Otis will now pivot from an elusive Money in the Bank run to a dead-end feud with Tucker as both members of Heavy Machinery appear to be headed down the Marty Jannetty route.

Not only did Otis lose big, but this felt like a negative sea change in the once-infallible legacy of the Money in the Bank briefcase. In an era that has perfected the art of the reverse Midas touch, the star-making Money in the Briefcase is in danger of becoming watered down. Just a few short months ago, The Miz was comedic cannon fodder alongside John Morrison in a two-on-one feud against Braun Strowman.

Despite what appears to be a resurgent victory on the surface, the future does not bode well for The Miz, who won his first and only world championship in 2011. At this point of his career, The Miz is more likely to lose in a cash-in attempt rather than defeat the Randy Ortons, Drew McIntyres and The Fiends of the world.

Winner: Sasha Banks

It wasn’t too long ago when it legitimately seemed like Sasha Banks would never wrestle another match for WWE again. But since her shocking return from her 2019 sabbatical, Banks rejoined forces with Bayley and has not looked back.

The pair have created all kinds of magic together, from a heel stable that routinely upstaged vanilla world champion Drew McIntyre across three brands, to their current heated rivalry that finally saw its satisfying conclusion. Banks and Bayley’s final showdown, like their feud itself, wasn’t without its flaws, but it delivered in a big way and ended as one of the more memorable sagas of the modern era.

For her part, Sasha Banks made history by achieving a Grand Slam inside a calendar year. Now seems like a better time than ever for WWE to finally pull the trigger on a lengthy title reign for a woman who has never held a singles title for longer than 27 days.

Loser: RETRIBUTION

WWE couldn’t have screwed up a stable more if it tried. Mustafa Ali’s RETRIBUTION was dead on arrival from the start, and its latest chapter featured a quick loss by Slapjack as Lashley submitted another one of its hapless members with The Hurt Lock. Those rumors about RETRIBUTION headlining Survivor Series feel like they were an eternity ago. This stable should be lucky to even get a match on the show, let alone a win.

With losing streaks among young talent all the rage in WWE—from Austin Theory, to Velveteen Dream to Chad Gable—RETRIBUTION is nothing more than an elaborate losing streak under a mask.

Loser: Drew McIntyre

Drew McIntyre was once again kept strong in a Hell in a Cell match that ended with the salty former WWE champion on his own two feet despite taking a bump from near the top of the cage.

McIntyre feels like he is in line to regain the WWE Championship, but with Edge-Orton always a possibility, The Miz already teasing a cash-in on Randy Orton and The Fiend hot on his heels, McIntyre could be ushered to the back of the line for the time being. It doesn’t take much for WWE to fall in love with beating its Superstars (see losing streaks above), and the fact that McIntyre suffered his first two pinfall losses of 2020 within weeks of each other is concerning for the once-dominant babyface.
