WWE Money In The Bank 2020 Results: Braun Strowman’s Transitional Reign Continues With Win Over Bray Wyatt

Braun Strowman defeated Bray Wyatt Sunday night at WWE Money in the Bank as Bray Wyatt’s creation regained the WWE Universal Championship that many argue he should have never lost.

Bray Wyatt suddenly finds himself, and this character, at a crossroads after another world championship loss. Wyatt is sure to get another world championship opportunity as a Fiend (that must me nice), which should will be a must-win match as the character continues to be undermined by costly losses after being booked as an invincible monster.

After taking a shocking (although not all that shocking if you really thought about it at the time) loss to Goldberg at WWE Super ShowDown, The Fiend largely avoided a downward spiral as WWE kept him in a prominent main event role. With world championships diminished more than ever present day (not even considering the pandemic), WWE fans are trained to support star power.

By keeping Bray Wyatt/The Fiend at the top of Friday Night SmackDown opposite John Cena, fans continued to view the character at a level above is peers.

Wyatt’s mostly well-received, if not polarizing and bizarre, Firefly Fun House match made him a major talking point coming out of WrestleMania weekend, rather than an afterthought after suffering his first loss in quick order.

Braun Strowman, who has been pushed to varying degrees since his main roster debut, technically qualifies as a star in the eyes of fans. His highlight reel of one-man stunt demolitions are the subject of WWE’s most-viewed clips in the history of its YouTube channel.

For a brief stretch in 2017, it could even be suggested that Strowman was something of a draw on Raw.

But with one failed opportunity after another in world championship matches, Strowman’s reputation of losing big matches began to overshadow his flashy feats of strength. Even though Strowman finally climbed the mountain with a Universal Championship win over Goldberg at WrestleMania 36, he only did so as a contingency after Roman Reigns pulled out of the event at the final hour.

A loss for Strowman would have confirmed the prevailing cynicism surrounding him that. he was only meant to be a transitional champion as WWE looked to complete the resurrection of The Fiend.

Though Strowman did prevail against Bray Wyatt, few will give him a chance against The Fiend, all things considered. And despite winning his first two singles championships over the course of a couple months, Strowman’s over due world title run still feels like a case of too little, too late as a perennial top star.
