WWE Raw Results: Winners, News And Notes With Hell In A Cell Main Event

WWE advertised Bobby Lashley vs. Xavier Woods inside Hell in a Cell just hours after reports that NBCUniversal was none-too-pleased that WWE gave away a Hell in a Cell match for free to Fox this past Friday on SmackDown Live.

Raw also advertised a series of Money in the Bank qualifying matches including Drew McIntyre vs. Riddle, Randy Orton vs. John Morrison, AJ Styles vs. Ricochet and Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross vs. Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler.

Friday’s broadcast of WWE SmackDown, featuring Roman Reigns vs. Rey Mysterio inside Hell in a Cell, garnered a final rating of 2.045 million, which is up 5.2% from the overnight rating the week before. WWE Raw garnered a viewership of 1.742 million.

Bobby Lashley Challenges Xavier Woods for Hell in a Cell

Xavier Woods’ rant about being a gamer and all the “toxic meatheads” who make fun of him for it sounded like a subliminal shot at The Undertaker.

This interaction featured Lashley, Kofi, Woods and MVP stepping over each other at points, but it was so realistic.

WWE announcing a Hell in a Cell just hours after reports of NBCUniversal being upset that they let Fox have a Hell in a Cell for free is hardly a coincidence. I wonder if WWE will give Fox and NBCU their own Money in the Bank briefcases as well.

Ricochet def. AJ Styles—Money in the Bank Qualifying Match

With AJ Styles and Randy Orton both competing in Money in the Bank qualifying matches, there has to be an age limit for Money in the Bank.

This was easily Ricochet’s biggest win of his career, not only because he beat AJ Styles but because he now gets to showcase his athletic talents in a Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

Asuka and Naomi def. Doudrop and Eva Marie—Money in the Bank Qualifying Match

This is almost the exact creative they used with Eva during her previous run five years ago when she always had an excuse for not wrestling. One of those times featured a wardrobe malfunction & it was one of WWE’s biggest YouTube clips ever with 45 million views.

Piper Niven, now known as Doudrop, surprisingly turned on Eva Marie by abandoning her in this tag match. For once, and after a cascade of premature complaints about this paring, the wait-and-see approach to WWE programming is starting to pay off.

Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair Face Off

I have no idea what to feel for either of these heels, and as long as they’re both heels, I don’t care.

The basic storyline with Charlotte is that Sonya Deville is going to keep giving her opportunities until she finally wins her 14th title reign.

John Morrison def. Randy Orton—Money in the Bank Qualifying Match

The Miz wheeled to the ring with not one, but three whole drip sticks.

Randy Orton didn’t sell the drip stick for a single solitary second.

John Cena was all over this show in pre-tapes to promote F9, and I’m pretty sure this marks the unofficial start to his feud against Roman Reigns.

The amount of upsets tonight have made this show feel so much fresher.

Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross def. Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler—Money in the Bank Qualifying Match

God bless Nikki Cross for dressing up like a cartoon Adam West and expecting me to take her seriously.

Nikki Cross’ superhero gimmick is the latest wacky innovation in the women’s division. The fact that WWE was going to pair these two together is beyond wild.

Riddle def. Drew McIntyre—Money in the Bank Qualifying Match

The announce team was already laying out the booking scenario for Drew McIntyre winning the Money in the Bank, noting that he’d be able to cash in whenever Bobby dropped the title. The fix is in.

Jinder Mahal became the latest heel to raise a very valid gripe about Drew McIntyre getting the 9,000th time this year.

Riddle got thrown right on his shoulder in a shaky German suplex spot, but was perfectly fine.

McIntyre did a fantastic job selling his scarred back and Hell in a Cell injuries throughout this match.

Bobby Lashley def. Xavier Woods—Hell in a Cell

On a show filled with upsets, nothing in this main event could be taken for granted, especially with Lashley selling his injuries from last night.

At one point, Bobby Lashley punched a chair and MVP gave him this look, almost as if to say “you sure you still want this smoke, bruh?”

Not only did WWE keep both networks happy with a bonus Hell in a Cell tonight, but this show was filled with upset wins by cult favorites. This Raw was a win for WWE.
