WWE Reportedly Offered The Revival North Of $750,000 To Keep Them From AEW

With The Revival receiving its release, after months of begging for one, it’s bash-your-former-employer season for Dax Hardwood (Scott Dawson) and Cash Wheeler (Dash Wilder).

On the latest episode of Talk is Jericho, the tag team followed in the footsteps of Jon Moxley and Brodie Lee to blow off steam to Chris Jericho about their plight in WWE. The Revival’s appearance on Talk is Jericho is yet another strong indication, among countless strong indications, that The Revival is AEW-bound.

Of note, The Revival—now known as The Revolt—confirmed longstanding rumors that WWE offered the team a lofty six-figure extension despite its unheralded role as a midcard tag team with limited credibility. The reported figure being tossed around was as high as $700,000, however The Revival claims it was much higher as WWE—pre-COVID-19, of course—looked to use its unmatched financial resources to overpay its talent to stay put.

“There is no way that we are going to be staying here past June,” said Wheeler of The Revival’s tumultuous time in WWE.

“We got a phone call saying we have been pulled from everything going forward. I don’t know if because we agreed to do it, it lost some of its hilarity to them. The numbers that have been reported contract wise, $750,000 per year, the number was higher than that. They offered more than that for us to do the clown Cat in the Hat.”

Of course, the “clown Cat in the Hat” is in reference to leaked photos of a gimmick seemingly designed to embarrass The Revival while the duo was playing hardball as its contract was set to expire. The Revival confirmed that these photos were “100 percent real.”

Now freed from its sports entertainment shackles, which led to a failed run in WWE with The Revival’s staunch belief in tag team wrestling conflicting with WWE’s emphasis on singles star, the wrestling world awaits The Revival’s next move.

AEW Executive Vice President Cody teased surprises for its first live show in over a month this past week, but the biggest surprise may have been the show coming and going with no appearance from Dax Hardwood or Cash Wheeler. The Young Bucks—an obvious choice of opponent for the newly minted Revolt—deciding to stay home during the pandemic may have played a hand in the timing of Wheeler and Hardwood’s seemingly imminent debut.
