Zendaya Becomes Youngest Emmy Winner For Lead Actress In Drama

Euphoria star Zendaya made Emmy’s history as the youngest actress to win for lead actress in a drama series. Killing Eve star Jodie Comer set the record last year as the youngest woman to ever win for lead actress in a drama series. Zendaya is the second black actress to take home an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series since Violas Davis (How To Get Away With Murder)in 2015.

“I know this feels like a really weird time to be celebrating,” said Zendaya. “But I just want to say that there is hope in the young people out there. I know that our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that, but there is hope in the young people. And I just want to say to all my peers out there doing the work in the streets, I see you, I admire you and I thank you.”

Zendaya took home the trophy over Jodie Comer (Killing Eve), Sandra Oh (Killing Eve), Laura Linney (Ozark), Olivia Colman (The Crown), and Jennifer Aniston (The Morning Show).

Euphoria was nominated for five Emmys at this year’s ceremony: Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Original Dramatic Score), Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics, Outstanding Music Supervision, Outstanding Contemporary Costumes, and Outstanding Contemporary Makeup (Non-Prosthetic).
