The game Baccarat can often be seen as difficult, although once played it is a simple game to become mastered at. There are eight standard decks of cards – four cards are dealt from this deck. Two of these cards are dealt to you (as the player’s hand) and the other two are dealt to the banker’s hand. The basic aim of the game is to bet on a winning hand or a tie, based on whose hand you believe will reach closest to the sum of nine.
In some instances, there are no immediate winners, meaning a third card would have to be drawn. If the dealer does not win and the total of your cards is between zero and five, you will be dealt a third card, to try and inch closer to the sum of nine. Whereas, if the player’s hand totals six or seven, the dealer will deal themselves a third card. Now here is where it becomes slightly more complex…
The extra card that is dealt works out due to the player always drawing a card first, so unless your cards instantly sum up to nine, you can choose to draw or not draw a new card (stand) before the dealer’s go.
If the player decides to stand and not draw a third card, then the banker’s previous sum total of their two cards will remain on six or seven. Or, if the player doesn’t draw a third card and the banker’s hand is between zero and five, the banker will end up drawing with the player.
The rules change if you, as the player, decide to draw a third card, and there are a number of different plays to go by if this happens. For example, if the player’s third card is an eight, the banker will then draw if their two cards are between zero and two, and will stand if their cards are between three and seven.
The rules go on for different cards in the standard deck, but luckily the dealer will know when a third card needs to be dealt, but it might be useful when first learning how to play Baccarat.
