‘Naked & Afraid of Sharks 2’ Preview
Two years ago, the original Naked & Afraid aired a special in conjunction with Shark Week 2018 where former N&A particpants Ky Furneaux, Ryan Holt, Chris Fischer, Steven Lee Hall, and Eva Rupert were stranded on an island in the middle of the most shark-infested waters in the world for 14 days in the Bahamas.
In that special, according to Show Snob’s recap, the biggest problems were terrible weather conditions and getting their own food because the contestants “got pretty spooked whenever the sharks showed up, often in packs, and usually proceeded to rapidly flee the water.”
However, the recap also said that the show really tried to paint the sharks as deadly killers when in fact sharks in the Caribbean reef are typically not that dangerous. In fact, at one point, “After the contestants found a random fishing line on the island, commercial fisherman Chris went out to heroically get dinner for everyone. He managed to hook a fish, but as he was pulling the line in, the shark casually swam up, bit the fish off the line and swam away.”
The special is back this year as part of the sixth season of Naked & Afraid XL. This version features Matt Wright, Jeff Zausch, Serena and Amber Shine, and Alex Manard in the Bermuda Triangle as they “attempt to survive on a remote strip of islands whose waters are so teeming with predators, locals call it ‘Shark Alley.’ With limited resources and punishing conditions on land, they’ll have no choice but to take to the waters and compete with hungry sharks for the same food.”
