The moviegoer was taken into custody by officers for “possession of narcotics, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest,” police said
A Michigan man was arrested on Thursday at a Southgate movie theater for indecent exposure during a screening of Kristen Stewart‘s latest film, Love Lies Bleeding.
Southgate Police confirmed to Rolling Stone that they’d responded to a call regarding a disorderly and intoxicated man refusing to leave the establishment.
“Upon arrival, officers encountered a 33 year old W/M subject who was passed out inside one of the movie theaters,” the police said. “That male was subsequently taken into custody by officers for possession of narcotics, indecent exposure, disorderly conduct, and resisting arrest.”
The incident first went viral on X, formerly Twitter, on Thursday, when one user who was also at the showing posted a picture of the man asleep and slumped over with his penis out of his pants and several alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, and a vape on the small table beside his chair. “Went to go see Love Lies Bleeding and this drunk guy jacked himself off to sleep,” the post read.
Love Lies Bleeding is a queer romance story in which Stewart plays a gym manager who falls for a bodybuilder played by Katy O’Brien. Stewart spoke about the film heavily during her widely discussed cover story with Rolling Stone.
The piece — and the cover photo of Stewart wearing a jock strap — became controversial with the conservative right. She addressed the criticism on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert this week, saying, “I think there’s a certain overt acknowledgment of female sexuality that has its own volition in a way that’s annoying for people who are sexist and homophobic.”
