Netflix Announces London Hughes Stand-up Special from HartBeat Productions (EXCLUSIVE)

Comedian, writer, actor and host London Hughes has set her first stand-up special for Netflix, produced by HartBeat Productions, Variety has learned exclusively.

The hour-long special, entitled “London Hughes: To Catch a D*ck,” will stream on Dec. 22. This debut comedy special first launched in the U.K. and earned her the distinction of being the first British Black woman to be nominated for the Edinburgh Comedy “Best Show” Award. Now she is premiering it on a global scale.

“I’m thrilled to be working with the legend that is Kevin Hart, and I’m so excited for the world to see this special,” said Hughes. “After the crazy year we’ve had, we could all do with a good laugh and some good dick.”

In the special, Hughes reflects on how she is “awesome, successful, attractive…has no gag reflex and yet somehow [is] incredibly single,” Netflix explained. In order to break down how that happened, Hughes is using her platform to “explore the complete mystery of why the world is full of desirable [and] brilliant but single women — who definitely don’t need a man but wouldn’t mind the option.”

“London Hughes is a once in a generation talent. HartBeat is both excited and privileged to produce her first global comedy special with the biggest comedy platform in the world,” said executive producer Bryan Smiley.

“London Hughes: To Catch a D*ck” is directed by Kristian Mercado and executive produced by Hart, Smiley, Leland Wigington and Tiffany Brown for HartBeat, as well as Troy Miller for Dakota Films.

This is not Hughes’ only partnership with the streamer: Just last week it was announced that Hughes would be hosting the upcoming 18-episode weekly comedy aftershow, aptly titled “The Netflix Afterparty,” alongside fellow comedians David Spade and Fortune Feimster. This series is set to launch in 2021.

Hughes is also known for ITV2’s “Don’t Hate the Playaz,” as well as appearances on that same network’s “The Stand-up Sketch Show,” on BBC2’s “Mock the Week,” on Amazon Prime Video’s “Fleabag” and her own YouTube series, “No Filter.” Additionally she has hosted Channel 5’s “Extreme Hair Wars” and has a dating podcast entitled “London, Actually,” which is available on Spotify.

HartBeart just launched Hart’s stand-up special “Zero F**ks Given” on the streamer earlier this week.

Hughes is repped by Haven, Curtis Brown, UTA and Ziffren. Hart is repped by 3Arts, UTA and Schreck Rose Dapello Adams Berlin & Dunham.
