The singer posted a video of the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee talking about reproductive rights to her Instagram story
Already a known Kamala Harris fan, Olivia Rodrigo flexed her support for the Democratic Party’s presumptive presidential nominee by reposting a video Harris made about reproductive rights on Instagram.
“And we who believe in reproductive freedom will stop Donald Trump’s extreme abortion bans because we trust women to make decisions about their own body [sic] and not have their government tell them what to do,” Harris says in the video posted to Rodrigo’s story. “And when Congress passes a law to restore reproductive freedoms, as president of the United States, I will sign it into law.” Rodrigo endorsed the sentiment with four “raised hands” emojis.
Rodrigo has long supported reproductive rights. When the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, the singer expressed her fears onstage at Glastonbury. “I’m devastated and terrified,” she told the audience. “So many women and so many girls are going to die because of this.” She made similar remarks that year at a Washington, D.C. concert.
This year, when she kicked off her tour in support of Guts, she launched Fund 4 Good, an initiative that will help raise money for the National Network of Abortion Funds via her ticket sales. She also helped disperse morning after pills at a concert St. Louis, Missouri, where reproductive rights are in jeopardy, in March, though they soon stopped the practice.
Rodrigo met with Harris and posed for a photo with her during a visit to the White House to discuss Covid-19 vaccines in 2021. Harris posted a photo of the visit to Instagram with the caption: “I agree, vaccines—they’re ‘good 4 u.’”
