Thappad Box Office Collection Day 8: Taapsee Pannu’s Film Witnesses Jump, Mints Rs 27.84 Crore

Surprising the ticket windows with its sudden jump, Anubhav Sinha-directorial Thappad, starring Taapsee Pannu in the lead, witnessed a boost on Sunday. The thought-provoking movie collected a total of Rs 27.84 crore by the eight-day of its release.

Sharing the pumped-up numbers on his social media handle, Indian film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh revealed, “#Thappad jumps on [second] Sat and Sun… Despite #Baaghi3 juggernaut + reduced showcasing + #CoronaVirus scare + examination period… #Holi holiday should boost numbers tomorrow… [Week 2] Fri 95 lakhs, Sat 1.95 cr, Sun 2.15 cr. Total: ₹ 27.84 cr. #India biz (sic).”

The film revolves around domestic violence and it has managed to create a lasting impact on the audience. Thappad features a gripping storyline on a subject that has never been talked about in the mainstream cinema. The film narrates the story of a married couple played by Taapsee Pannu and Pavail Gulati and the toll their marriage takes when the husband slaps his wife in a fit of rage. Things take a drastic turn with Taapsee refuses to make peace with the insult or the show of violence that she was subjected to.

It talks about domestic violence and how even ‘one slap’ should not be endured. The film doesn’t only comment on society’s refusal to accept women who are separated or divorced but also explores the emotions of a woman who doesn’t know if she is silently making peace with a violent marriage.

Thappad has received good reviews and a terrific word of mouth on social media. The story has emerged out as something that was important to be told and Taapsee’s performance as housewife Amrita who decides to walk out of the marriage after her husband slaps her at a party, has impressed all. With Sinha’s newfound goodwill that he earned by making films like Mulk and Article 15 in the recent past, Thappad got an extra edge over other films currently running on the screens.
