The 12 Best Episodes of ‘Community’ to Watch on Netflix and Hulu

It’s time to re-enroll at Greendale because “Community” is on Netflix.

Sure, the short-lived NBC series still lives on Hulu, but it’s gained new life and popularity since its addition to Netflix this month. Plus, with so many sheltering in place, there’s a fresh opportunity for old and new fans alike to binge the cult favorite.

The series follows the hijinks of a seven-person study group at the fictional Greendale Community College, and it parodied just about every TV and film trope. The meta humor was ahead of its time on early 2010s NBC and featured some big-name talent before their careers catapulted to the next level. It was created by Dan Harmon before he made “Rick and Morty,” executive produced by the Russo brothers before they became some of Marvel’s most consistent directors and starred Donald Glover before he found major musical success as Childish Gambino.

Despite being adored by fans, the show’s ratings were low, leaving it on the brink of cancellation season after season. Harmon was temporarily fired during Season 4, which wound up being widely panned and retconned in Season 5 by a “gas leak” that explained why the characters acted strangely. NBC pulled the plug after five seasons, but the show found an unlikely savior in Yahoo! Screen, and the short-lived streamer gave it a sixth run. The final season was a mixed bag, but it kept fans’ dreams of “six seasons and a movie” alive.

Star Joel McHale recently told Variety that a “Community” movie is closer to happening than ever before. “For a long time I was like, ‘Never gonna happen.’ Now I think with the renewed interest, and I know the cast is interested, that it could happen,” he said.
