Trudie Styler-Directed Doc ‘An Ode to Naples’ Gets U.S. Premiere at MoMA Hosted by John Turturro

Actor-director Trudie Styler’s doc “Posso entrare? An Ode to Naples” is set to have its U.S. premiere at New York City’s MoMA on July 17, followed by an onstage chat moderated by John Turturro.

Styler’s high-profile doc delves into the belly of the unique southern Italian port city, located in the shadow of active volcano Mount Vesuvius, that is known for its resilience, crime and creative energy. Her “Ode” features, among others, “Gomorrah” author Roberto Saviano; Alessandra Clemente, a Naples municipal councillor whose mother was murdered in a mob shootout; the women involved in Forti Guerriere, an organization against domestic violence and femicide; and a musical performance by Sting, who is Styler’s husband.

In her directors’ notes, Styler — who has had a home in Tuscany for two decades — points out that “it’s only the wind that has protected Naples from Vesuvius’s dangerous lava and ash.”

“Emotional protection: community, culture, pride, charity. Family, music, food. There may not be a city more present, that more lives in the moment than Naples. There are no shortages of problems or
difficulties; but even in its darkness and death, it is a city of unrivaled vitality,” she adds.

“Posso entrare? An Ode to Naples” is produced by Big Sur, Mad Entertainment and RAI Cinema in co-production with Luce Cinecittà.

The doc, which launched last year from the Rome Film Festival, is being distributed internationally by RAI Cinema International Distribution, which has scored sales in more than a dozen territories including to Disney+ for the U.K. and Beta for Germany.
