Earth Day 2022: Google doodle highlights climate change’s impact on planet | – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The world is celebrating the annual Earth Day today to promote global awareness about environmental protection and conservation. Google too dedicated a doodle on the occasion addressing one of the most pressing topics of the time: Climate change.
Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. These shifts may be natural, such as through variations in the solar cycle. But since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to burning fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.
The search engine has created a series of animations of four locations to show how climate change has impacted our planet. Using real time-lapse imagery from Google Earth Timelapse and other sources, the doodle showcases the impact of climate change across four different locales around our planet. “Acting now and together to live more sustainably is necessary to avoid the worst effects of climate change,” the search giant said in an official blog post.
Today’s doodle features real imagery from Glacier retreat at the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa, Sermersooq Glacier retreat in Greenland, Great Barrier Reef in Australia and Harz Forests in Germany, all having witnessed the impact of climate crisis in some form or another.
Throughout the day, the animations will keep changing when you open the Google Search homepage. The doodle images will represent four different locations on earth and the impact global warming has had on these areas over the years.

Every year, Earth Day is celebrated on April 22 as a reminder to protect the planet and make it sustainable for our future generations. It was first held on April 22, 1970. The official theme for 2022 is ‘invest in our planet’.
