How to watch Netflix on your Mac computer?

Boasting more than 203.66 million paying members, Netflix is undoubtedly one of the most popular streaming services that exist today. And it continues to grow exponentially!

Unfortunately, there’s no Netflix app for Mac. However, Mac users can watch their favorite Netflix shows by accessing Netflix using Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, or Opera browser.

Are you confused because you’ve come across websites claiming that you can download Netflix for Mac? That’s a trap. You should steer clear of such websites because, at present, there doesn’t exist any Netflix app for Mac. What you’ll end up downloading is an app that looks like Netflix, but isn’t the real thing.

While you cannot easily download Netflix on Mac (like your friends), below given are a few relatively simple workarounds. Here, take a look and enjoy Netflix shows while on the go.

How to watch Netflix on your Mac computer?

1. Access Netflix using an Internet browser

You can easily access Netflix by using Google Chrome, Safari, or Mozilla on your browser. Streaming on Mac computers using supported browsers is available in all regions where Netflix is available. The resolutions that you will get are –

  • Up to 720p if you’re streaming shows using Mozilla, Chrome, and Opera
  • Using Safari, the resolution can go up to 1080p on macOS 10.11 to 10.15
  • On macOS 11.0 or late, the resolution can go up to 4k on Safari

For accessing Netflix on supported browsers, you need to follow the given steps –

  • Visit Netflix.com from your browser and select sign in
  • You need to become a paid member to access the shows and so, select an appropriate subscription
  • Once your account is set up and you have access to the Internet, you can use your browser to watch Netflix shows anytime and anywhere

2. Netflix for iPad and iPhone

Even though there’s no Netflix app for macOS, the streaming company has released an app for iOS devices. You can download this app directly from AppStore.

Netflix for iOS will work wonderfully with your regular Netflix account. You can watch all the movies and shows that you were dying to watch from anywhere!

You can use the app to browse through rows of top selection for your selected genre and you can also select and download titles to watch later when you’re offline.

Shows and movies can be streaming easily and directly from your iOS device to any Airplay-enabled device like an old Apple laptop or Apple TV.

3. Watch Netflix shows offline on Mac

Wi-Fi might not always be available. You might be on the move or in some remote part of the country where getting stable Internet is difficult. What do you do? You can watch Netflix offline. But, you have a Mac computer?

You can checkout for a step-by-step guide on how you can watch Netflix shows offline.

Below, take a look at the popular and simple options that you have to watch offline Netflix shows and movies.

  • Install Windows OS

Intel-based Mac computer users can install the Windows OS with Boot camp. You will require a Windows installation disk image or media containing a 64-bit version of the Microsoft Windows, mouse, an Apple keyboard or a USB mouse and keyboard, a blank 16GB or more USB 2 flash drive, and a minimum of 55GB of free disk space on your startup drive.

Once the installation is complete, you can easily switch between Windows and macOS. After that, all you need to do is download the official Netflix app from the Microsoft store and create or sign in to your Netflix account.

Since the Netflix app for Windows already supports offline watching, you should face no trouble downloading your favorite movies and shows and watching them later.

  • Utilizing a screen capture software

If you don’t want to install Windows OS, you can resort to using screen capture software. This will allow you to capture a selected part of the screen and you can save the recording as a regular video file to watch later.

This means that while you are playing a Netflix show on your web browser, you can record it and save it for later viewing. However, beware that this method is time-consuming. Also, this is borderline illegal, and therefore, you should refrain from sharing the recorded videos with your friends or family. Make sure to go through Netflix’s terms and conditions.

  • Stream the shows from your iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch

There is a Netflix app for iOS and it supports AirPlay. AirPlay is a proprietary protocol stack that Apple has developed so that wireless streaming between devices of multimedia content is possible.

What does this mean, you ask? It means that you can stream Netflix shows and movies from your iOS device to devices that are AirPlay-enabled over Wi-Fi.

Since the app also supports downloads, you have nothing to worry about. You will get everything you need to watch your much-loved shows offline and/or online on Mac.

So, what are you waiting for? Start implementing any one of these techniques to start binge-watching!
