AEW Dynamite Results: News And Notes After Brodie Lee Continues To Needle Vince McMahon

AEW Dynamite was highlighted by a long main event between Sammy Guevara and Kenny Omega, who battled for the AAA Mega Championship with Omega prevailing in a good match, all things considered.

Dynamite also featured a much-talked-about vignette where Brodie Lee lashed out at one of his minions (Alex Reynolds) for sneezing in what was an obvious rib on Vince McMahon. The former Luke Harper’s antagonization of his former boss figures to be a running theme as, during last week’s big reveal, Lee remarked “you’re not the first out-of-touch old man to not believe in me. But I will make damn sure you are the last.”

The main event segment featured a confrontation between Matt Hardy and Chris Jericho that ended with Hardy and members of The Elite standing tall.

Last week’s broadcast of AEW Dynamite garnered 932,000 viewers compared to WWE NXT, which drew 542,000.

AEW Dynamite Results: Wednesday, March 25, 2020

Cody def. Jimmy Havoc

Cody has more victories over unproven talent than just about anybody in AEW. If he were a college football team, he’d be TCU.

This match should have had a stipulation where the winner gets to be the color commentator.

Darby Allin def. Kip Sabian

For all I know, Darby Allin could be showing us the same vignette every week before his matches but I would be equally captivated.

Cody really did his homework for commentary.

Today I learned AEW’s barricades are simply bike racks with cloths on them.

Darby Allin has a finisher called The Last Supper and it’s a freaking rollup. When’s the last time somebody took time out of their day to name a rollup combination?

Cody Old-School Pro Wrestling References:

  • 1980s Sting
  • Baby Doll
  • Bill Watts
  • The Gibson Leg Lock

Jake Hager def. Chico Adams

Aubrey Edwards was the referee for this match and I hardly noticed because there was nobody there to chant for her.

This match is how Jake Hager’s debut against Dustin Rhodes should have gone.

It’s too early now, and he’ll need a mouthpiece (or his amazing performer of a wife), but if AEW plays its cards right, there could be some money in Jake Hager as a dominant heel world champion.

“Big Platinum” is a great nickname for a championship belt.

Brodie Lee def. QT Marshall

Brodie Lee gets to wear a suit and eat steak on camera which is already an upgrade from his previous stint.

Brodie Lee getting mad at somebody for sneezing was clearly a rib on Vince, but given the current climate, he actually comes off as a babyface for losing his shit around somebody spreading those droplets.

The sneezing bit was very amusing but The Dark Order needs to be careful not to go the comedy route. Brodie’s a real talent and this isn’t the type of gimmick that lends itself to comedy. If they get too silly they’ll become The Oddities.

Next week’s Brodie Lee segment is likely to feature one of the following:

  • Brodie Lee gets into a tense confrontation with Bob Costas
  • Brodie Lee tears both his quads
  • Brodie Lee screws Bret Hart

Kenny Omega def. Sammy Guevara

This was announced as the main event, meaning Sammy Guevara and Kenny Omega could get upwards of 45 minutes.

This is the biggest match of Sammy Guevara’s life and it’s surreal to watch it all unfold in an empty arena.

Kenny Omega is technically a dual champion in AEW.

This match proved what everybody already knew, that Kenny Omega does not need two hands to be a great wrestler.

Chris Jericho Invites Matt Hardy to Join The Inner Circle

Triple H is a better cameraman than Chris Jericho.

Chris Jericho not using a mic for an empty arena broadcast made all the sense in the world. It always looks awkward.

If Vanguard 1 was a character on live WWE television, it would be neon-colored and it would speak in a robotic accent.

What I wouldn’t give to see Vanguard 1 in an Inner Circle t-shirt.

Matt Hardy calling Chris Jericho the “Maker of Pain” made me realize that “God of the Spaniards” will eventually become a thing if he feuds with Sammy Guevara.

Chris Jericho used the term “bad booking” to describe Matt Hardy’s WWE run as AEW taking shots at WWE was a theme on this night.
