Aljamain Sterling Vs. Cory Sandhagen: Odds And Predictions For UFC 250 Bout

The UFC men’s bantamweight division has some excellent fights on Saturday night in Las Vegas for UFC 250. Aljamain Sterling takes on Cory Sandhagen in a fight that could determine one of the next challengers for the UFC Men’s Bantamweight title.

Let’s take a look at the odds, preview and my prediction for the fight.

Odds

  • Sterling -110
  • Sandhagen -110

Per BetOnline

Why The Odds Are Even

This fight is shaping up as a pick-em according to the recent odds, and that’s because it’s too difficult to give either man a clear edge over the other.

Sterling has just one definitive loss in his MMA career, and that was a first-round KO defeat at the hands of Marlon Moraes in 2017.

Prior to that, he’d loss two split decisions to Bryan Caraway and Raphael Assuncao. Since the loss to Moraes, Sterling has looked like a true title contender. He’s won four fights in a row handing Brett Johns, Cody Stamann, Jimmie Rivera, and Pedro Munhoz defeats on this streak.

Sterling is a strong athlete whose wrestling is his best trait. That said, he has worked tirelessly on his striking, and it is the most improved aspect of his game. Against Munhoz, Sterling outlanded his opponent 174-105 en route to the unanimous-decision victory. As his game rounds into shape, the 30-year-old New York native looks more dangerous.

Sandhagen is one of the tallest fighters in the division at 5’11.” Stylistically, he’s like a tall Dominick Cruz with his east-west movement and activity. While his diversified striking game is one of the best parts of his attack, he’s also proficient on the ground with three submission victories in his career.

Sandhagen is on a seven-fight win streak and he’s a perfect 5-0 in the UFC with wins over Austin Arnett, Iuri Alcantara, Mario Bautista, John Lineker and Assuncao.

With both Sterling and Sandhagen on a run, this is possibly the toughest fight on the card to predict.

Prediction

From a credential standpoint, the two men are about as equal as you’ll see. However, Sandhagen is likely the better striker with his length and movement being the major keys to his success.

Sterling does have a longer reach, despite giving up four inches in height, but I still expect him to struggle to connect flush with Sandhagen’s head or body. Sterling would be wise to use calf kicks to limit Sandhagen’s mobility, but the latter’s ability to adjust and disrupt his opponent’s timing will be the difference.

I have Sandhagen winning this one by a unanimous decision, but it will be a close call that could have gone either way.

Stay tuned for more UFC 250 information leading up to the post-fight coverage on Saturday.
