Blackpink Has Never Enjoyed A Bigger Week On Billboard’s Albums Charts

After scoring big wins on charts all around the world throughout the past several years with a handful of EPs, Blackpink has finally given their fans the full-length they’ve been waiting for, and their die-hard followers didn’t waste any time in sending it toward the top of every ranking it was eligible to find its way on to.

In the U.S., Blackpink has never enjoyed a bigger week on Billboard’s albums charts—here’s a look at how their latest effort performed upon its arrival.

Billboard 200

For some time, it looked like Blackpink was headed right for a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200, as there were no other scheduled releases that seemed like they stood a serious chance of competing against the biggest girl group in the world for the throne on the all-genre tally. Just days before The Album arrived, hip-hop powerhouses 21 Savage and Metro Boomin revealed their second collaborative collection, Savage Mode II, would be available at the same time…and that was that.

As the rap superstars launch their latest effort at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, the all-genre tally that ranks the most-consumed albums in the U.S. every week, Blackpink start their time on the chart at No. 2. That’s slightly frustrating, but it is still the best-ever placement for a South Korean girl group (the first top 10, to be exact) and it’s high enough to make it one of the loftiest placements for any name from the Asian country.

Top Album Sales

While Blackpink’s debut full-length might not be the biggest title in the U.S. this week, it does open as the bestselling collection. The Album sold just over 81,000 copies in its first tracking period, which was easily enough for the band to score a leader on the Top Album Sales chart. In fact, the quarett wins this frame by more than 34,000 copies, beating YG’s My Life 4Hunnid, which starts in the runner-up rung with more than 46,000 purchases.

World Albums

Of all the Billboard charts The Album was expected to perform well on, the World Albums ranking was the most certain. It is the only ranking that Blackpink has controlled before, and they do so once again this frame with their latest.

The Album opens at No. 1 on the World Albums chart, granting the band their third leader, as two EPs—Kill This Love and Square Up—both took turns running the show.
