Blackpink’s New Album Is Already Off To An Incredible Start On Spotify

Blackpink’s debut full-length The Album has finally arrived, and while it’s only been out for a few days and its placement on charts all around the world hasn’t yet been determined, the set is bound to appear fairly high on rankings nearly everywhere. The quartet’s first proper album is sure to rack up a truly impressive sales figure in its first seven days of availability, but how about on streaming platforms?

The South Korean girl group has always performed extremely well when it comes to selling music, but they haven’t quite replicated that success on streaming platforms in the past…though it looks like fans of the band are accessing the project in any way possible this time around, and the title was an instant winner on Spotify on the day it arrived.

On Friday, October 2, Blackpink ruled the Spotify charts like never before, with all eight tracks featured on The Album debuting inside the top 25 on the streaming giant’s global ranking of the most-played tunes.

Four of the songs featured on their debut album—or exactly half of the tracklist—took up space inside the top 10 on the list of the most-streamed cuts in the world. New focus track “Lovesick Girls” landed the highest placement, opening at No. 3, behind only 24k Goldn and Iann Dior’s “Mood” and Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion’s “WAP” at Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.

“Bet You Wanna,” a collaboration with Cardi B, launched at No. 4, giving the group control over two of the top five rungs. Fellow new cut “Pretty Savage” started at No. 8, while recent single “Ice Cream,” which features Selena Gomez, rose to No. 10.

Below the top 10, the other four songs featured on The Album weren’t far behind. “Crazy Over You,” “Love to Hate Me” and “How You Like That” settled at Nos. 17, 18 and 19, respectively, with only the latter having already spent time on the ranking. On October 1, that last title was down at No. 55.

The lowest-charting of the bunch, “You Never Know,” was down at No. 25, which is still a healthy start for an album cut.

All those streams (which are global, which is important to keep in mind) will help both Blackpink’s The Album, as well as the individual songs, perform exceptionally well on official charts in dozens of countries, and if the four-member vocal outfit can keep up the streams, they’re bound to enjoy a massive first frame.
