CDC Director: Covid Vaccine Will Likely Be Rolled Out In Mid-December

With one coronavirus vaccine already under review for emergency approval and two others poised to start the process, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Director Robert Redfield projected on Tuesday that a vaccine could become available “by the end of the second week in December.”

The Food and Drug Administration is scheduled to convene on Dec. 10 to discuss an emergency authorization request filed by Pfizer and BioNTech last week. That vaccine candidate, as well as one developed by Moderna, both tested at roughly 95% efficacy in clinical trials. A third, cheaper vaccine from British-based manufacturer AstraZeneca has also shown promise, with the company announcing Monday that it tested 90% effective against the virus.
