CM Punk Calls Out WWE’s AJ Styles For Silence During Protests

Controversial former WWE champion CM Punk has called out top WWE Superstar AJ Styles for Styles’ lack of comment amid nationwide protests in the fallout from the George Floyd killing.

As countless WWE Superstars, and the pro wrestling industry at large, continue to show overwhelming support to the black community and its leaders, Styles has been one of the few to remain radio silent amid racial unrest.

As part of a series of Twitter interactions with fans, Punk suggested Styles’ political values stray from what has been the status quo in WWE, as most within the company have publicly advocated for racial equality.

In response one fan suggesting “it’s clear how he feels” toward the issue of race, Punk plainly noted “Well come on. That one has been obvious for years.”

AJ Styles has yet to respond to CM Punk as of this writing. Styles has appeared on various conservative platforms, speaking out against the idea of toxic masculinity, PC culture and in opposition toward several other issues that largely align with a left-wing agenda, an agenda which also supports the #BlackLivesMatter movement. The Georgia native has continued to refrain from comment at a time where silence toward racial injustice speaks volumes louder than it has in decades.

CM Punk, to contrast, offered a heartfelt monologue on the current state of racial equality, or lack thereof. Appearing as a panelist on WWE Backstage this past Tuesday, Punk issued a call to action to white people, pleading:

“If you’re white, use your voice, protect your black brothers and sisters and protect the people that this country was not built for. They might say it was, but everyone has a different experience. And just listen more.”

With Styles having yet to take Punk up on his offer, a potentially useful discussion about race could be brewing between two white men in their 40s on differing sides of the political spectrum.

WWE Superstar Jaxson Ryker recently landed in hot water after tweeting in support of President Donald Trump, while various wrestling personalities have exemplified the worst in American discourse during truly trying times.

Perhaps #BlackLivesMatter aren’t quite the right words for Styles, but as long as he is in support of racial equality, it’s becoming increasingly suspicious for such a public figure on social media to remain so silent.
