FM launches PSU banks’ doorstep service – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Union finance and corporate affairs minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday launched the doorstep banking service of staterun banks, which is expected to benefit a large number of customers of these entities, including senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
Doorstep banking services is aimed at providing convenience of banking services to the customers through the universal touch points of a call centre, web portal or mobile app. Customers can also track their service request through these channels.
The services shall be rendered by the doorstep banking agents deployed by selected service providers at 100 centres across the country, the finance ministry said.
At present only non-financial services such as picking up of cheques, demand draft, pay order are available to customers. Financial services shall be made available from October. The services can be availed by customers of public-sector banks at nominal charges, the statement said.
“At this stage, the catalysts for economic revival, the catalysts who have the pulse of every one of their customers, are banks,” Sitharaman said, while launching the service. The finance minister said banks have to introspect on their core business and focus on welfare as well.
“You don’t forget your core activity, which is lending and making money out of it and that is a legitimate activity. You will do that and also being public sector, do some things which are welfare related as announced by the gover nment.”
