Global Hit ‘La Casa De Papel’ (‘Money Heist’) To Restart Production, Netflix Reveals Series Comes To An End

The wildly popular Spanish series La Casa De Papel (Money Heist) is coming to an end. Netflix
NFLX
announced today that part 5 of the global hit will be its last.

There’s a lot riding on the final installment of the most watched non English-language series on the platform, which has shattered viewership records with each season. Part 4, which debuted April 3, 2020, was watched by 65 million households that first month, leaving fans hanging with yet another cliffhanger.

Show creator and executive producer Alex Pina has been working on how to bring the saga of the red jumpsuit Dali-masked thieves, who successfully robbed the Spanish mint, escaped with billions of euros in loot and lived an idyllic life on the lam until one of their own is captured, setting off a new incredible heist as part of the team’s rescue plan, to a satisfying end.

“We’ve spent almost a year thinking about how to break up the band. How to put the Professor on the ropes. How to get into situations that are irreversible for many characters,” says Pina. “The result is the fifth part of La Casa de Papel. The war reaches its most extreme and savage levels, but it is also the most epic and exciting season.”

Pina had already hinted at the return of the series earlier this month on a social media post, sharing a photo of him on a hammock in front of a laptop with the caption “Writing Casa de Papel 5.” But speculation about extending the series even further were put to rest with today’s announcement from Netflix.

The final chapter will consist of 10 episodes and starts production August 3 and will shoot in, Spain, Denmark and Portugal.

There will also be new additions to the cast. Miguel Ángel Silvestre (Sky Rojo, Sense 8, Velvet) and Patrick Criado (Goya award nominee for La gran familia española, Vivir sin permiso) will join series stars Úrsula Coberó (Tokyo), Álvaro Morte (The Professor) , Itziar Ituño (Lisbon), Pedro Alonso (Berlín), Miguel Herrán (Rio), Jaime Lorente (Denver), Esther Acebo (Stockholm), Enrique Arce (Arturo), Darko Peric (Helsinki), Hovik Keuchkerian (Bogotá), Luka Peros (Marseille), Belén Cuesta (Manila), Fernando Cayo (Coronel Tamayo), Rodrigo de la Serna (Palermo), Najwa Nimri (Inspector Sierra) and José Manuel Poga (Gandía).

For the final season, Jesús Colmenar will act as executive producer and Alex Pina will be executive producer and showrunner. Cristina López Ferraz will return as director of production and executive producer. Javier Gómez Santander (head writer), Migue Amodeo (Director of Photography) and Esther Martínez-Lobato are also co-producing. La Casa De Papel Part 5 will be directed by Jesús Colmenar, Koldo Serra and Álex Rodrigo.

La Casa De Papel is produced by Vancouver Media for Netflix.
