Greta Van Fleet Continue Their Classic Rock Conquest With New Album & Single

Greta Van Fleet, one of rock’s youngest and most popularized — albeit — polarizing new acts have officially announced plans for their next album cycle. Today the band debuted the single, “Age of Machine,” along with the title for their new album, The Battle at Garden’s Gate, which is set to release April 16th. The epic new single seems to take place in the same classic rock territory where Greta initially established themselves, but possibly containing more of a pop-rock edge, specifically in the anthemic choruses and wall of vocals showcased.

However, for those who are not yet acquainted with the band, ever since their 2017 debut Greta Van Fleet have been praised, as well as belittled, for their uncanny ‘homage’ to classic rock bands, most specifically the legendary Led Zeppelin. And to call Greta Van Fleet ‘polarizing’ would be a vast understatement, as rock fans have bestowed all kinds of labels to the band from “rock’s tried and true saviors,” to “rock’s true end,” or the ever classic “Led Zeppelin 2.0.”

As it goes for this band or any artist for the matter, their music isn’t going to please everyone, and seeing as Greta Van Fleet haven’t shown off any significant change of direction (at least yet), their new record will ultimately further displease the haters and continue to please the fans, while likely winning over new ones as well.

But in the case of Greta Van Fleet, it’s not so black and white in terms of why they get a simultaneous dose of praise and disapproval. The classic rock comparison is fair game, and it’s hard to take anyone seriously who doesn’t at least think they’re reminiscent of rock giants Led Zeppelin, The Who, AC/DC etc. However, the issue arises with how reminiscent they sound to these bands. Do they sound like a total rip-off, or do they sound like they’re revitalizing a genre?

Both statements have endlessly been argued throughout the last 3 years and there is no right answer of course, but if anything, Greta Van Fleet should be viewed as somewhat of a blessing to the rock n’ roll genre. They’ve certainly helped to repopularize many of the acts and sub-genres they hold dear, and they’ve ultimately done so for a new generation, despite not being crowd pleasers to the rock community at large.
