Is BTS Releasing A New Album This Summer?

2020 has already been perhaps the best year of BTS’s time together as a group, and if they took an extended vacation for the next several months, they would still rank among the most successful acts in the world by the time 2021 rolls around. The septet has little to prove, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t still working hard during this relative period of quiet, and there may be something special coming soon.

In fact, there are rumors—ones which seem to make a lot of sense and which have been all but confirmed—that suggest that the band may already be working on new music, and that it may come out in the form of a complete project, perhaps as early as this summer.

Billboard Japan shared the news not long ago that BTS had signed on to record and release a new tune for a Japanese TV drama program called Spiral Labyrinth: DNA Science Investigation. The track, titled “Stay Gold,” was selected as the theme song for the series, and it will be pushed as a single…but that’s not the only good news for followers of the Korean septet.

The news item appears to confirm that “Stay Gold” will also be featured on BTS’s new Japanese album, which was initially expected at some point this coming summer, although plans may have changed. Spiral Labyrinth: DNA Science Investigation has now been delayed due to the spread of the deadly coronavirus (which hit South Korea particularly hard) and the single along with it. So far, there is no new release date for the tune or the program, but it hopefully won’t be too long before fans get to hear and watch.

While the timetable may be a bit different for “Stay Gold” and the show it’s meant to be featured on, BTS may still be working on a new Japanese record. The song is likely done and there are a number of reasons to believe that it’s time for the outfit to jump back into the country where they’ve found much success throughout their career.

BTS’s record label and management company BigHit Entertainment has remained fairly mum on the subject, only telling K-pop-focused outlet Koreaboo that “information will be revealed once BTS’s schedule is finalized.” That may not be much to go on, but plenty of fans of the seven-member vocal band are already gearing themselves up for a new set of tracks and translations from their favorites, and they may receive it in the coming months.
