Justin Bieber Is The First Musician To Score Seven Billion-Streamers On Spotify

Justin Bieber has no issue scoring hit after hit on traditional radio and on the Billboard charts, and he clearly doesn’t struggle to rack up historic stream counts on Spotify either, where he advances beyond every other name on the platform with another big win.

The Canadian pop singer’s single “I Don’t Care,” a duet with Ed Sheeran for the latter’s No.6 Collaborations Project album, has just passed one billion plays on Spotify, becoming one of fewer than 80 tracks that have been lucky enough to reach that special milestone.

Both artists have scored more than one billion-streamer on the popular site before, and with another smash to his credit, Bieber pulls out of a tie with another superstar to claim the most blockbusters among all musicians.

“I Don’t Care” is Bieber’s seventh single to rack up one billion plays on Spotify, and it joins some of the most successful cuts of the past decade or so. The singer’s most-played tune remains “Love Yourself,” which has now been listened to over 1.3 billion times. His single “Sorry,” which was also featured on his album Purpose, is about to reach that same figure. A third cut from the same project, the introductory “What Do You Mean?,” has also joined the billion-stream club.

Bieber’s four other entrants in the billion-stream group all come to him thanks to smart collaborations with other acts who front the singles that went on to become global giants. Those four tunes are Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee’s “Despacito,” DJ Snake’s “Let Me Love You,” Major Lazer and MØ’s “Cold Water” and now “I Don’t Care” with Sheeran.

Next up for Bieber when it comes to singles reaching one billion plays on Spotify is “I’m the One,” the song produced and fronted by DJ Khaled and which also features Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne. That cut now needs fewer than 50 million plays to hit one billion clicks, which isn’t very much, and it will probably become Bieber’s eighth hit to make it to that mark in a few months.

Until “I Don’t Care” passed one billion streams, Bieber was tied with Post Malone for the most billion-streamers, as both acts had managed half a dozen. The hip-hop staple’s “I Fall Apart” recently became his sixth single to make it to that important mark.
